Labyrinth: We Wouldn't Mind Getting Lost With Clark
![]()
Normally we’re not terribly fond of alternate-universe episodes, but we thought this one was pretty good. They convincingly played the loony-bin angle to the extent that even though we’d heard J'onn J'onzz was in this episode, we still rolled our eyes and wrote off the guy when he said he was from Mars. It wasn’t until the end that we realized he’s serious. Good job with the fake-out there.
We also liked the gray wash on all the lighting and the muffled sounds underscoring all the action. How many people realized that rhythmic, buzzing noise was Shelby barking in the real world? Again, we didn’t get that until the very end. Perhaps we’re particularly slow this week. (But it was good to see Shelby back. Good dog!)
We were a little concerned about Clark’s phantom-created Lana. She seemed rather young and insipid to us. She was so obviously two-dimensional - a comic-book girlfriend - that we can’t believe Clark almost fell for it. We’ve never been big fans of Lana, but we’ll take the flawed, Lex-marrying Lana over the perky little girl version any day.
Finally, we found it interesting that even in a hallucination, Clark knew Chloe would believe in him. It was kind of sweet, even though phantom Chloe was a complete lunatic. But her death was a complete non-event. Snore, snore, phantom Chloe’s dead, what’s next? We doubt that was what they were going for there, but it’s hard to be terribly effected by a death you know is only temporary.
What did you think of the episode, the hallucinations, the return of Martian Manhunter and the different versions of Clark’s friends and family? Let us know!

A stellar ep, my favorite of S6--but SV has a pattern of ruining good eps in the final 7 minutes ("Spirit," anyone?) and they did it again. When the entire ep is designed and structured to indicate that Lana is NOT A POSITIVE FORCE in Clark's life--and the big reveal is: "I still love her."?
Boggles the brain, and very disappointing since this was a rockin' ep till it went south.

GO SHAR! I COMPLETELY agree with you AND the rest of the Chlarkers&Chloisers:-) That should REALLY hav bn the promo for C*****n(i can't even say the word without cringing&physically getting ill;-)Tht promo is *tsssss*HOT*:-) Clark & Chloe SO belong together. Subcontiously Clark knows that Chloe's the ONE TRUE LOVE of his life...the one whose ALWAYS been there with loyalty, understanding and love...she's the one that's always stood by him with NO judgment or hesitation...and so to has Clark always been there for her as well. This episode just proved that even when Clark's in an Alternate Universe he still knows that Chloe is the ONLY one who will ever believe in and stand by him*sigh* They'r SO adorably sweet AND PERFECT for each other...now all the writers hav2do is rite in that Chloe isda REAL TRUE Lois Lane(CHLOIS) and then Clark&Chloe's DESTINY will be sealed, they'l b together4eva(",)The writers hav afterall hinted&teased@Chlark&Chlois for FIVE WHOLE DARN seasons, so its about time they put their money where their writings been ALL along:-) CHLARK & CHLOIS for Season 6(AND FOREVER)ALL DA WAY(",)They're SO worth the wait...(",)

Personally, I have never said that Clana wasn't a contributing factor to the success of Smallville, but come on.....this show is definitely not just about these two. Geez, I get so tired of this. Just take away the whole Superman man aspect of this show and whether it has these two or not....the show would not be the success that it has been. What a way to short change the other talented people on this show.

I like the darkness of the sixth season. I guess I'm a rather dark season but it seems to me that the show has grown up. The older seasons seem like kid stuff now (except the original Impulse/AC/Cyborg episodes). Let the red kryptonite roll lol

I won't be watching Crimson (yak to the Clark/Lois and Clark/Lana going on in this ep..talk about character regression for Clark!).
This should've been the promo for Crimson:

after watching it many times i can say this episode was one of the best this season because of the AMAZING acting and most of the incredible writing.
tom Welling´s performance was his best of the season! KK/AM/MR acting were also great!
as for chlark and clana...
chlark friendship and care for eachother was great. clark stills loves lana...mmmm... i know ...again?...but what can we do...we just can sit and see what´s happens! i would like the clana friendship...but at this point...with clark feelings i don´t know what to expect.
i think that every ship deserves its chance
(past-present-future)
some people wants clana-clana-clois
others clana-clana-clana
others clana-clois-clois
why don´t we have! clana-chlark-clois!!!! it´s fair!

Smallville last as long as it did because of the chemistry of Tom and Kristin. There are over 100 channels and most series never last more than 10 or fewer episodes. The Lois and Clark series on ABC was the lowest rated show when it was cancelled. Smallville is one of the few shows that do give a huge financial return to the producers and network. In real life, every person loses more than he/she would win. Hence, Chloe is a much more identifiable character and having Chloe always suffered for her unrequited love for Clark only sets up these unending hate mails about Lana. Lana is a character created by the show’s writers, get it people!!!! I have not enjoyed the Season 6 at all. It is dark and sad. Green Arrow and Lois look uncomfortable and mostly unnatural together. I am hoping that Lana will find out about Clark and that would be the end of the series. At least most of us who have watch from the beginning have past happy memories of the show from the earlier seasons

Tom Welling was fantastic; I can't say enough about his performance. He had me sold. And the fact that even in the Alternate Vision World, Clark knows Chloe will always be the one to help and support him, even die for him if she has to, was awesome.
And no Lois is always good; she brings every episode she's in down. I think this tells us that Clark really doesn't think much about Lois because she was completely absent. Unless they have to Red K him, as next week in what looks to be a complete travesty, or invent some ridiculous reason, like the switch with Green Arrow, Clark isn't into Lois at all. She has no place in his most important thoughts and even the Phantom Zoner didn't bother to use her in any way. This woman is not in any way the real Lois Lane. Chloe is the real Lois of this show and that was made clear again. Now, can we please have that promised Chloe and Clark romance FINALLY that the writers promised in Vessel? We're really sick of waiting and sitting through even more horrible Lana.
The worst thing about this ep was the nauseating and stupid Clana at the end. Now, Lana was suitably creepy in the SU vision, especially when she was in the lab with Clark and the doctor but overall Lana was exactly the same there as in the real world where she wants all Clark's attention, everyone's attention and manipulated everything and everyone to get it.
So why did we get another nasty dose of Clark wanting this awful girl? It never made sense but after six years? Really stupid, Clark. Is this the image they want us to get of the hero?
Just get over it and bring us Clark and Chloe. Don't make us wait any longer.

This episode was great. Continutity was established. TW pulled a great performance. Less Lex and more Clark was also great. The best thing was Shelby

The last five to ten minutes had some great acting and really well done scenes.....that would in and of themselves have been great for the story IF THE DAMN FREAKIN' "ON & OFF" THING HANDN'T BEEN DONE FOR 6 AND 1/2 SEASONS ALREADY! And yeah, that one stupid line about still loving the inspid one just ruined an otherwise really fun episode.
I guess my only sweet revenge for having been put through all this Clana Crap since seaon 1 is that in the years to come, this version of Clark Kent will be seen for what he is ( by that I mean more so than he is already)........a character who has brief moments of being the best incarnation of Clark Kent Ever (most of these moments however can all be found in season 1 & 2)........ONLY to be OVER SHADOWED by THE PERPETUAL MOMENTS OF GRAND STUPIDITY AND REGRESSION for a little boy who would someday be the most powerful hero ever.........yawn. But certainly not the SMARTEST & COOLEST......Sorry Supes....your buddy The Bat has got you there.
To quote something Tom Welling has said (as discussed on the season four comentary of "Spell")....."CLARK'S AN IDIOT!"
That stupid line of still loving Lana made me think of "Reckoning"
I laugh everytime I see the scene of him crying to Jo-rel.....
Clark: "Waaaaaah......how could you take her away from me....Waaaaaaaah"
Awwwww....does Cry Baby Clarkie want his bottle?.....Geez...simply PATHETIC.
AND NOW....For the secret of Lana Lang's Success......the truth behind her over powering appeal to everything male in and around Smallville & Metropolis.....what is it do you ask?......Well I'll tell ya....the word on the street....(actually, I read it on the message boards of the most popular Smallville website around).....is that it lies in the Secret Mason Jars that Lana keeps hidden under her kitchen sink.
These Secret Jars are rumored to be Labeled as follows:
Jar 1: Clark Kent Family Jewels
Jar 2: Lex Luthor Family Jewels
Jar 3. Jason Teague Family Jewels
Jar 4: Al Gough Family Jewels *
Jar 5: Miles Millar's Family Jewels *
( * denotes very small jar )

The best thing about this episode is Clark and Lana, regardless how creepy Lana is in the AU. The last few minutes made the episode for me. The 2nd best thing, NO LOIS!! I can't stand her. She overacts every scene she's in. I semi-enjoyed her scenes with Oli, but really, I think GA can do much better than a know-it-all Lois. Chloe is cute, but no chemistry with Clark, they come across more like brothers and sisters to me. Yes, Chloe is important to Clark, but that's because she's like a little sister to him!!
Can't stand the whole Lana-Lex angle. Just not very convincing. I say let Lana finally learn the truth (like the episode from last season) and they can finally be happy and be together.

I thought the idea of an AU in which Clark is powerless would serve to prove to him once and for all that he is lucky to have them. That he should consider them a gift and that, for him, being SUPER is NORMAL.
Yet, at the end he realizes that he is still in love with Lana and then goes to see her. Although I did sense that he went to the Talon to see it, evidenced by his expression of appreciation for it's existence in reality when he walked in. Having Lana there may have been accidental.
I don't think it's a bad thing that he realizes he is still in love with her because Chloe even though she is with Jimmy obviously is still in love with Clark.
Even though I am 100% redblooded Chloe/Clark shipper, I am really tired of relationship angst. I don't care anymore who he dates just please I pray to all that is good and holy, no more angst.
Forgetting the relationships for a moment, I wanted to see Clark take another step on his path toward being the man in tights and the resolution of the episode did not deliver that.
I thought it was very telling that Chloe's death made him lose the faith and in his fractured mind he did choose her over normalcy and Lana.
Overall I thought it was a great episode with great acting from everyone.
Martha looked awesome decked out in the life of Luthor finery.

Most of this show was great - I liked how attentive it was to continuity. Having people in the hospital be JL members was so cool.
But please no more stupid Lana-pining from Clark. Wasn't the point of this dream that she's part of his past and he'd have to surrender a chunk of his brain to be with her? Enough! It's time for Clark to be a proper hero.
Posted by: Brian | January 29, 2007 4:54 PM
Ok, about Labyrinth....
I really liked the episode except for the very end when Clark confess for the gazillionth time his love for Blahna!
What i liked:
- the fact that Chloe believed in Clark in this AU.
- the Chlark hug at the end with Shelby
- Clark saying to Chloe that she means more to him than she could ever imagine
- great TW/AM/MR/KK acting
- Nois was not in this episode, so the show was able to focuse on the core four.
- There was actually continuity for once
- the Martian Manhunter kicked ass!
- How the writers explained how Clark got all the names of his "fantasy land"
What i didn't like
- the return of Clana
- Clark Kent being an utter idiot while pining over someone who's dangerous for him. He was about to give up on eveything to be "normal" to be with Lana, and after he wakes up he still loves her although it's perfecly clear that she's never gonna accept him for who he really is.
That's alright SV writers, throw a bone to the Clana shippers. They deserve it after sending 250 letters.
I just can't help but think that Chlois is the right way to go and can't wait to see what our 1500+ letters will bring on the show ;)
Just so you know, CK has lost all credibility for me. I can understand that you don't want to loose any shippers. But to make him go after 3 different women without even deciding himself it's pathetic and boring.
Cloisers, enjoy Crimson. Don't worry about me, i heard Ugly Betty is going to be awsome this thursday.

Geez, Rene, hypersensitive much? It's a blog, not a news site -- they're SUPPOSED to show bias and not be impartial. You called the bloggers "adolescent" and "unprofessional for posting their opinion -- methinks this is a classic case of pot calling the kettle black.

I have to agree with the most part of the posters here... Why?!! This episode was really, really good until the last five minutes... "I still love her"... WTF? How about Clark realizing that his superpowers are a gift and not a punishment? How about him realizing that his destiny is to SAVE THE WORLD and not to spend the rest of her life with Lana? Too much to ask, I guess... I could have seen the ending as a bittersweet ending between Clark and Lana, once and for all but noooooo!!! In the very next episode here we're again... and with the new Al Gough interview about triangles changing just to please 250 whinning fans... you know what you can expect... Zombie Clana is coming back!!! EEEWWWWWW...
Really I don't get it why they decide to change the promising direction of the show after Hydro to regret to season 2 all over again (with the exception of Justice off course)... So much potential is lost...
Clark was finally accepting his destiny and moving on from this unhealty relationship with Lana, I was beginning to like Lana a lot more in episodes like "Zod" or "Arrow" where she was stronger, darker and a lot more confident (This is the Lana that I could love and not someone who doesn't know what she wants all the time...), and Lex before Hydro was showing his two sides in a way that I loved... but now,... Clark in crying for his failed relationship with Lana again and forgetting about the rest of the world, Lana is again the stupid girl who cannot make up her mind while she plays with Clark and Lex's feelings and Lex is acting like a jerk I used to like the Lex and Lana relationship because Lex called Lana on her faults but now it seems that he has fall into Lana's charm and he could only make woo-woo eyes to her and he's is enduring all that crap with a smile on his face, where is the REAL Lex Luthor when you need him!! I love smallville tortured Lex but this is not a tortured soul he's a jerk right now.
So here are my prays tough I suppose that like I'm not a Clana fan it doesn't matter...
- First and most important, if this show is about the relationship between Clark and Lana and not about Superman in trainning just tell me so I could stop watching right now!
- Let Clark move on and accept his destiny and don't involve him in any stupid romantic triangle.
- Let Lana with Lex but not as a poor victim who everyone MUST love but as a strong badass, really is the only way I can stand her and it's just when you do that when the Lexana relathionship becomes interesting to see.
- Let Lex to gain some balls and to achieve the power in the Lexana relationship... I hate to see him subordinated to Lana's desires and changes of mind.
-Less insipid triangles and bones to all the shippers and more discoverings of Clark's heritatge.

Who writes these comments? For that matter, who's in charge of this site?
Putting your fan bias ahead of an impartial review of this episode - to see what a multi-layered and revealing episode it actually was - is really unprofessional and adolescent. Another waste of a SV site.

Viewers watch Smallville because of Clark and Lana. It is hard to imagine that Smallville had viwership up to the 7 to 8 million level in Season 1,2 and 3. Consistenly the highest rated episodes are when Clark and Lana are together. This show should end in Season 6. Tom Welling is 30 years old and he looks a little weighty and bloated and the uniqueness of Smallville is just not the same any more with the storyline in Season 6. I can't stand Lois, Chloe is given the same lines over and over again. Lana has been the most victimized character and it is no fun watching her character being destroyed week after week. The Green Arrow character makes Lex Luther look sympathetic. Smallville should end with Season 6.

Hopefully, the Smallville writers will pay some attention to all of the forums such as this one, in which viewer response to Labyrinth seems to overwhelming say, “Down with Clana!” and “Hooray for Chlark!”
The writers should dispense with the “Clark ends up with Lois” canon of the traditional Superman mythology. This is, after all, “Smallville”, and not “Metropolis”. As previous posters have indicated, Chloe is the object of a mature, selfless love which represents true partnership.
As an ongoing follow-up to Labyrinth, MM, as a counselor/friend/mentor/sounding board figure, could be instrumental in letting Clark follow up on his Labyrinth experience by helping Clark to figure out how he truly feels about Chloe (and Lana). By working through his unresolved feelings for Lana, he could eventually realize that Chloe is the woman he actually loves. There would of course be the ultimate moment of recognition when he acknowledges that any remaining romantic feelings for Lana are simply the leftovers of adolescent infatuation that no longer fits into his heart or his life, and that he needs to let go of his attachment to the idealized version of Lana that exists only in his mind. This could be done in a dramatically rewarding way by interweaving this plotline among several upcoming episodes, thus turning it into a gradual journey of personal growth for Clark.
Such a role for Martian Manhunter would be reminiscent of a similar interaction between the J'onn J'onzz version of MM and the hero Ice (Tora Olafsdotter) in the lead story of DC’s Justice League Quarterly #5 (Winter 91). And the moment of recognition for Clark would be evocative of a similar realization by the 1992 DC version of Lana Lang, when, referring to Pete Ross in The Adventures of Superman #27 (July 1992), she says “I’ve waited a lifetime for someone like him.” (Up until that moment of recognition, she had been carrying a torch for Clark, and was marrying Pete not out of love, but in an effort to forget Clark and get on with her life.)

I can honestly say I don’t know if I like the episode.
I thought Tom did a fantastic job, he’s acting was spot on. Michael’s scene was fantastic. I wish they would give him more chances to flex his acting muscles.
I thought Lana was creeeepy. The fairie lights in the loft? The whole Stepford Wife bit? Watching the man you love get his head drilled (almost)? Just creepy. KK did really well with that.
Too little AoT as usual. Interesting that her and Lana had on the either the same or almost the same outfit and hair. (Lana at the end of the episode)
MM was awesome and I can’t wait until he’s back.
Yeah for Shelby! Saves the day again.
No Nois? Thank God. That in itself made the episode. Which myself and quite a few other fans noticed that EDLois Lane had no feature in Clark’s AU. Why? She is not his future. Another Chlois anvil being dropped there.
Chloe? Someone made a comment on a message board that Chloe had Clark’s back even in his subconscious. I couldn’t agree more. Clark’s subconscious made the distinction that while Chloe believed him, and in him and wanted him to escape, Lana was the one who wanted him to do what the doctor’s said and be normal. I thought that was a bit telling.
Loved the anvil about the “Pulitzer Prize winning reporter”. AM as usual stole every scene she was in. And one she wasn’t in. When Clark showed little emotion when Chloe died in his arms, I was very disappointed. I mean c‘mon this is your best friend here you BDA. But after her “death” and Clark was back in the asylum, and said “Chloe is dead”, you could see him give up. The devastated look on his face and when he slumped to the floor? Killed me. Clark’s touchstone, the one person who believed him above all others had died, and there was nothing he could do, except give in. Why go back to reality? The most important person in his life was gone, or so he thought. No doubt in my mind that Clark really does now realize how much Chloe means to him. As to this whole thing about this episode "foreshadowing" Chloe's death? AM (and the writers)have made Chloe a vital part of SV, so much so that DC comics bought the character. Yeah, they are going to so kill her off. /sarcasm
I thought the ending was interesting. Clark and Lana were civil and I think when Lana said, “We were just saying goodbye”, it meant GOODBYE. I thought that was the official end of romantic Clana. Thank God. But then I saw the preview for Crimson. I guess 250 letters to writers for Clana is more impressive than 1500 for Chlois huh?
Please tell me that was a aberration? Because this is not a soap opera, this whole romantic triangle, with Lex/Lana/Clark has got to stop. And the Clnois? Just ewwwww. I mean really, I don’t watch it, but I may have to check out Ugly Betty next week than watch that train wreck.

I think this has to be Tom Welling's finest episode to date. In many ways I think it's better than S4's Transference.
I loved the eerienest and creepinest of the AU.
Loved seeing J'onn.
Also, I thought that while Clark finally came to terms he still loved Lana, I was left with the impression that he knows any relationship with Lana is bad for him.
Loved Chloe in this episode. That fireside scene with Clark was swoon worthy.
The best part of this episode though was...Shelby! I've missed that cute puppy.
Posted by: CL | January 28, 2007 5:39 PM
I enjoyed this episode until Clark said he still loved Lana? What the hell? If 250 letters can bring up this stupid, insipid, character-destroying relationship, then let's start the petition that could kill it. I don't believe that Clark loves Lana, I see no basis for it, and now I'm supposed to believe that it's the be all and end all of Clark's existence? To top it off, we've had the careful buildup of the Clark/Chloe relationship, only to get whammied by the ugly ghost of Clana rearing its head. And then to add insult to injury, we get glimpses of cringe-inducing Lois macking on Clark. This is really bad storytelling. Payoff the damn Fever letter already! Or just end the relationship stuff altogether. My patience is running out and soon I will turn the channel.

"Justice" was your show's highest-rated episode since "Cyborg," and it did not have Lana in it at all. Please, I beg of you, interpret this datum correctly and understand that Lana, and, more precisely, the interminable Clark-Lana "romance," is ruining this show. I put "romance" in quotation marks because it should be obvious by now, and one would have hoped that "Labyrinth" would have made it obvious to Clark, that Clark's "love" of Lana, in addition to being utterly disfunctional, even pathological, is based entirely on a misperception of who she is. She is terrible for him, and he is much better off without her; this series would be better off without her as well.
Posted by: RichardAK | January 28, 2007 2:08 PM
What a disgrace!! Clark has learned not one thing. This was a chance for Clark to realize just how bad Lana is for him and what do the gutless wonders ie: Al Gough, Miles Millar and the writing team do..have Clark say he's still in love with Lana.
I find it sad that the people who run this show are ignorant enough to believe 250 whiners are representitive of their entire audience.
For those who do not know Al/Miles and Co recieved some 250 odd letters from upset Clana fans. Now given Al's recent interview about how Clana fans should keep watching because the triangle would be changing around its pretty obvious that these supposed storytellers are throwing away their creative integrity and letting a small number of people dictate what they do with the shows storyline.
I've got news for Al/Miles and the writers. While these Clana fans might be more vocal than most other fans of any particular romantic pairing: THESE SMALL MINORITY OF PEOPLE DO NOT REPRESENT MOST OF YOUR VIEWING AUDIENCE SO STOP CATERING TO THEM. Not only does it continue to damage the character of Clark but it also hurts the show and upsets many more fans.
As you can see plenty more people are pissed about the ending of this episode as well they should be because its complete regression for the character of Clark and it hurts the growth of the show and where it needs to head..in the direction of him becomming Superman which means he needs to be moving past Lana.

Well, thank goodness, you guys finally said you are not big fans of Lana because for sometime I've wondered why you have not featured KK at all.
Anyway, it's too bad you're so blinded by your Chlark fascination that you don't see the chemistry of these two people. Compare the last 2.4 minutes of Lana and Clark and the Clark and Chloe scene and you will obviously see, which couple has a better chemistry.

This episode was great in my personal oppinon for the first 50 minutes. I adored all the Chloe and Clark interaction throughout. What? after all this Clark still loves Lana? I just can't believe! I thought that Clark was finally ready to move on after "Zod". Why ALMILES? WHY?I’m not even going to watch “Crimson” next week because I want to keep my dinner down. I don’t need to see Hooker!Nois making out with RedK!Clark – its totally disgusting.Go to Kriptonsite Forum Vote to see that Smallville fan want Chlark. You don't respect fan. It's not real.In 2 ep Lois is a great reporter and in 2 ep she love Clark.

Well... I kind of liked this episode... except.. for the Clana.. what happened there?? I love Clark but really can someone be so blind not to see that even his subconscious is telling him that Lana is bad news??? I mean, she's trying to get him back into a clinic!! Every time she shows something bad happens!! And he thinks is 'cause he still loves her?? He's blinder than a bat!! At least they have radar!!
As always I loved Chloe, Allison Mack manages to create something awesome every week with this character, we could believe the fact that she was so crazy that she looked sane and also the fact that she's sane.
I just can't believe they didn't had an "oh my... I love Chloe" moment here!! The friendship one was nice, I love them together but I really wish Clark could wake up and smell the roses!!!
Also, the MM was awesome, I truly hope the CW is thinking about a Justice spin off, I'll love to see all this amazing heroes together.
It was a good episode but a disappointing one in several levels, please!! Just let the Clana die, at least give this ship some dignity!!
Oh yeah.. and I truly loved that Lois is not important enough to be in Clark's subconscious.
Hugs, be well and take care, Monica

This episode had a ton of good stuff in it (TW was amazing!), and seemed poised to provide Clark with an epiphany about his life, his powers, and how unhealthy his relationship with Lana is to him. Then we get some ridiculous tacked on ending where Clark says he still loves Lana? And then they talk about a dream he had, with them staring wistfully at each other at the end? What kind of crap is that?
Look, the Lexana is totally painful and hard to swallow, but at least it keeps Lana away from Clark. And at least it should provide the wake-up call Clark needs to realize that Lana is BAD NEWS to him. For Christ sakes, the girl waited about 5 minutes after her break up with Clark to run to his enemy. She's spawning with Lex. She ain't all that!
And sorry, but throwing Clark into the Lexana doesn't make that pairing anymore riveting either. In fact, all it does is make all 3 characters look like idiotic tools.
So, please, please, PLEASE...I beg of you. Let Clark move forward. Let him take away the lessons from Labyrinth in a positive way. Let him realize that he needs to embrace who he is, and Lana's "love" is toxic to him. And let him wake up to realize that there are 2 women in his life presently, Chloe and Lois, who would be a far more positive influence on him.
Please Smallville, I beg of you. Stop with the Clexana BS.

Oh God the Clana...I have to agree with the poster upthread who said that Clark is the dumbest superhero that ever existed. What a moron. He tells Chloe he almost gave up everything he loved for Lana and his big epiphany is he still loves her. What the hell??? Seriously did he have a labotomy like Lex a few seasons ago? Please God just kill Lana off or make her a freak that can persuade people to love her for no reason other than she will be loved crap {at least it would explain the last 5 seasons} whatever it takes to give Clark his balls back. If they go back to this Clana crap I'm outta here for good. Why the hell should Superman fall at the hands of a self-obsessed twit like Lana. Geez *sighs* He's freaking Kal-el this crap is beneath him, why is it Oliver Queen knows how to pack his feelings away in 2months of being on the show but Clark Kent is so whipped he can't figure it out after 6 years! 6 freaking years!! Dumbest superhero ever!!!! and the fact that Chloe is right there and the only one that believed him and believes in him on a consistent basis besides his mother and he can't see that and he STILL loves Lana?? I hate this show. I hate this show. Why can't DeKnight just write every episode. Justice was the best episode of the season and big surprise...no Lana. What kills me is that Clark was behaving like the hero that he is in Labyrinth up until the last 5 mins where you turned around and ruined everything! Why do you do this to our favourite superhero? Why?? Maybe you should just keep your Clana and we'll leave you four alone! Boo Al/Miles Booooooooo!

Oh, honestly, a lot of people dislike the horrible ending. Who is Superman? Is he just a better looking of Shallow Hal? I think even Shallow Hal would reject a gal he realized ruined everything else in his life.
This is the type of thing that made me decide not to even go the movie version of Superman or touch the Superman comics despite the fact that I buy quite a few manga.
I am seriously disgusted with Clark and do not think he should be Superman at all considering that he took nothing from that dream except the fact that he wants to bonk Lana.

I thought the acting in this was superb. I loved the closeness between Chlark, and TW's defeated reaction to her death. Awesome.
And then, the last five minutes happened.
Clana again?! Is there some purpose to turning Superman into a co-dependant tool, because I seriously don't get it. And here I thought he was growing up.
Please, enough with the anvils for every ship. It's insulting. If this show is about Clark and Lana 4 evah, let me know, so I can stop watching. If it's about Clark being the next guy in line at the Justice League to sample some Lois-love, let me know, so I can stop watching.
I've only watched this long waiting to see how the friendship between Lex and Clark falls apart (you killed that dream already, making it once again about Lana) and to see the payoff of the Fever Letter, for Chloe to finally be appreciated as the woman Clark grows into, (hoping, in fact, that she is revealed as the canon Lois Lane, because the current SV version only resembles her in name, IMO), but this constant ship-baiting, and now this horrible regression back to the zombie that is Clana, is too ridiculous to watch.

oh forgot-We expected a Chlark kiss! and we tunned in...but we got not Chloe/Clark kiss.
Disappointed :/

Sadly, what could have been a great episode for Clark to have some realizations about his life simply resulted in regression on the parts of our hero-in-training. Once released from a world where a phantom-created Lana creeped the hell out of the audience and under-scored how awful the character is for Clark’s growth, we have Clark emerging from this dream world learning nothing more than he still loves Lana.
I can appreciate the need to for Clark to work through his issues with Lana, but why didn’t he do this before now? Why have us sit through half a season of focus on he and Ollie and their differences in terms of being heroes … only to have him learn nothing and bring him right back to the point that has people making Ugly Betty appointment tv next week?
More importantly, how can anyone as emotionally stunted without the self-awareness to see problems with his relationship with Lana ever become Superman? Does he think Lana and he will run away together and raise Lex’s child together with him? Does he think Lex will ever let his child out of his sight to be raised with Clark? Naturally, some convient plot-lines might occur later on to correct this, but I’m sad to say at this stage, Days of our Lives, General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful have done this particular plot point for decades and done it better.
I would have to disagree with you about Chloe’s death. First, Clark choses to go after Chloe in the AU Talon while not believing Lana’s explanation and only when Chloe dies do we see Clark’s beliefs being to crumble in the face of the insipid Lana. That’s what Chloe’s death does to him – he begins to believe in the Phantom’s world – the fake Lana etc.
Worst of all in this episode was the sincere lack of the MM. It’s an appearance fans have been waiting for and we get shafted because of there’s more time devoted to the return of Clana and Clark’s regression in terms of character. How awful is that, especially considering that Phil Morris was so enthusiastic about his appearance in his interview with TV Guide Online. Sorry, Phil Morris, you don’t stand a chance against the might of the Almighty Lana Lang. I’m half convinced he won’t escape the show without commenting on how wonderful complexion is, or even worse, that she reminds him of someone who was dear to him once. As we all know, Lana Must Be Loved.

I think the Chloe death was important, after she died Clark gave up.
She was the only one to believe in him and when she died, he finally let the phantom get into his head and he agreed to go on w/the treatment.
Allison did a wonderful job with her death scene, she played it true to real life. I have no problems with that...Tom was great too he played Clark as shocked and stunned.
I hate that Clark came out of this with a rediscovery that he loves lana. The girl that tried to have him killed.
The Chloe/Clark hug was pure gold and fireside chats are always welcome!
a plus: no lois!!

Like any Smallville episode, Labyrinth had its highs and lows. The thing I find most apalling is Clark comes out of the AU still loving Lana. It reflects very badly on Clark, in my opinion. Furthermore, a great opportunity was wasted since we didn't hear Clark acknowledging his powers as a gift after that experience. Some emphasis should have been put on how Clark's view regards his powers is changing if he is ever to move forward and mature.
Barring the revelation that Clark still loves Lana, I cannot find much fault with this episode. It was great to see the Martian Manhunter and I hope we see a lot more of him. Lex was absolutely brilliant as was Martha. Tom Welling demonstrated a range of acting skills and his final breakdown when he realised that Chloe was dead was heartbreaking. Both Lana and Chloe's characters were very entertaining despite the former being twisted and the latter being slightly maniacal. The fireside conversation between Clark and Chloe was one of the best scenes I have seen in a long, long time. One of my pet peeves about their relationship has always been that Clark takes Chloe for granted and we rarely, if ever, see/hear him acknowledge her friendship/loyalty or even so much as inquire about her life. Instead, it's usually restricted to a case, Lana, or Clark.
It's not my right to tell the powers that be how they should proceed, but I do request that Clark move on from Lana and start acting a bit more 'Supermanly' and mature.

I thought it was a cool, creepy episode with a great performance by Tom Weling. I hope it doesn't herald the return of Clana, though. The show is so much better when it's angst-free(like "Justice".)
Posted by: callie | January 27, 2007 1:11 PM
I think it was one of the best episodes of the season. Lex still bugs me a lot though. He used to be cool and now instead of thinking of him as a great villian. I just think of him as a jealous, control freak b/f. He gets all pissy every single time Clark just goes to talk to Lana. Why doesn't Lana just see this guy is a jerk ? I mean there's pleanty of evidence of that just with how he treats Clark in front of her. But then again Lana is pretty clueless.
Anyway the Martian Man Hunter was cool but they should've at least made him green lol. Although I'm not saying there's anything wrong with him being black. But he should look the way he does in comics and cartoon series. Plus it've been cooler if he made an appearance in the Justice League episode. Since he's actually supposed to be a part of it. I don't think Cyborg ever was. If they ever make a live action tv series they should add the Green Lantin and The Martian Man Hunter.
Anyway next weeks episode looks pretty good as well. It's nice to see that Clark doesn't just kiss women on Red K but he also gives Lex the butt whipping he deserves. But I'm sure Lex will just get a restraining order on Clark after that so Clark can't go near him or Lana. Yes Smallville writing has become that predictable lol.

That AU Lana was the creepiest thing I've ever seen. Count me in as one of the people who would take dark Lana over this any day of the week.
As for the return of Clana...Color me uninterested. I thought Clark was finally moving on, but apparently, the man who's supposed to become Superman in the future is still hung up on his highschool crush. One word: Sad. I fear for Clark's character at this point.
Posted by: Angie | January 26, 2007 9:56 PM
That was actually a watchable episode. Would have been great if all the "Clark wuvs the unattainable Lana" crap was gone. It makes Clark look pathetic (and stupid, because insanity-Lana was so very obviously evil or working with the Doc, or whatever) to the point where the last scene made me think at some time in the future, he'd be boiling her bunny. Take out Lana and all the references to Lana, and you have a good episode.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 26, 2007 7:58 PM
ohh SV PTB..what have you gone and done????? i know, when you sit in your offices...far far away...you think that it is "fun" to throw bones to every ship every alternating week....but trust us....it's not "fun"...it only makes CK look really bad....
onto this week's episode:..generally good, except the "I still love her" crap....that was a mind whammie for me....i think i lost some brain cells after that line... i hope that line was more of a "I still care deeply for her, but I cannot be what she wants me to be or live that life cause that's not who I am"....i understand that it may be hard to get over ur first love...but seriously...
I cannot imagine how he could live with himself and the realization that he almost put the WHOLE WORLD at risk because he wanted to live a normal life for Lana.....can we get Ollie to teach him another lesson...didnt Ollie say there were bigger things in this world that what he wants or what he loves?..yeah, for Clark that needs to multiply by 10,000.
As for the actors...WOW...ALL of them brought their A-game out. Even though i dont want anymore Clana, KK was fabulous as a creepy, over-sweet kind of Stepford Wife, living a fantasy life in the loft character. Wheelchair Lex was wonderful also...and yes, i felt like shedding a tear for him too....Allison did a great job also, and her chemisty with Tom is natural and beautiful (i'm a sucker for fireside scenes)...and Tom...hats off to you...you played a confused person very well...i saw his progression from completely believing in himself to utter doubt and confusion...and he can throw a punch! who would have thought!!!! :)
shelby...well, the Bark of Doom is back in full!
as for Crimson...good lord..how many ppl is clark going to kiss/make out with/profess his love to in the space of 3 weeks????
Posted by: Labryinth was great | January 26, 2007 4:54 PM
"Labyrinth" was SUCH a cool episode for like, the first 50 minutes.
It was a great departure from the usual formula and was taking us to a place we had never been before and that was Clark, having to fight, using his will.
The Great:
- Chloe, believing in Clark
- Clark choosing Chloe over Lana in the dream world
- Lana was creeptastic and true to character, in that she will only accept Clark if he is "normal" and would never be okay with his alien heritage.
- The shoutouts to the other characters and locations from the story in the mental ward
- Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter
- TW/AM/KK/MR's acting!
- Chlark HUG! Chlark + Shelby = LOVE
- Chlark fireplace scene reminiscent of "Solitude"
The Terrible:
- Clark Kent being a pathetic waste of space saying that he still loves Lana Lang. Oh.My.Gosh.
Let Clana die...it's a useless coupling making it a useless storyline that is preventing him from being Superman.
- What kind of IDIOT would rather be with Lana than Chloe? I just don't get that.
I can't believe he went through that WHOLE "dream" world, saw that Chloe believed him when Lana didn't and witnessed Chloe's "DEATH" and STILL loves Lana in reality. What.The.Heck???
Pathetic. Truly pathetic.
"Labyrinth" had SO much good in it, but backtracking Clark's feelings for Lana just killed it.
Please tell me this is only there to bring back the Clark/Chloe/Lana triangle and fulfill the "Fever" letter with Chloe being the one Clark "grows into" because that's the ONLY way I'll put up with that mess.
The episode seemed to build up to the idea that Clark should appreciate his powers after being in a world where he didn't have them and couldn't help anyone, not to mention, realize that Chloe is the ONLY person (besides MM) that he could turn to and would always be there for him.
But, yet, we got a regression of Clark's character and that is incredibly disappointing.

Everybody seems to be still interested in the whole Clark and Lana thing, when it was doomed from day one. I don't get it! Everyone knows that CK marries Lois, so the minute she came along they shouldv'e dropped the Clark/Lana thing.I like the fact that cw is pointing in that direction finally, no matter how subtle.
Posted by: Rick | January 26, 2007 4:35 PM
The episode itself was good; however; a little SHORT in my opinion. Too many commercials. Clark and Lana always look amazing together; but; they have to put their relationship in the "loyal friendship" stage to further their character development. TW did an outstanding performance (as usual).
Posted by: gmg | January 26, 2007 4:21 PM
I have to say, I was weary to see this episode because its been done on other shows (and done really well) like Buffy, Charmed & Star Trek, so I progressed with caution.
The acting from Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Michael Rosenbaum & Kristin Kreuk was fantastic. They all brought their A game, esp. TW & AM -- so that was nice to see. I liked that the focus was back on the 4 core characters that viewers care about -- Clark, Chloe, Lex and Lana (if we must include her). There was no Nois in the alternate reality nor in the real reality -- thank goodness for small favors I guess!
I loved the fact that Chloe throughout everything, is the only one who believes & has faith in Clark. She is his anchor, the one he can't live without. When forced to choose between the two girls in the alternate reality, he chose Chloe, the one that would lead him to freedom & made him feel sane.
Throughout the episode, Alternate!Lana was always leading Clark into danger -- being recaptured, wanting him to be "normal" therefore not accepting his true self, and ultimately trying to lead him to his death. Lana is kryptonite to Clark. She's no good for him and in his dream reality, he knew that.
He only gave up his belief in himself after Chloe was killed. Without her, there was no one else left to tether him to his real identity. He didn't choose the treatment because he wanted to be normal to be with Lana. He gave up, after not believing it at first, because CHLOE WAS DEAD. This was compounded by the Zoner using the surroundings of the hospital to make it seem even more so to Clark that he made up his world.
It was also interesting that all the “good guys” – Clark, Chloe & the Martian Manhunter were locked away and said to be “insane”, while all the “evil guys” were trying to get them locked up again. The biggest betrayal for Clark was his mother calling the guards on him. That had to be the hardest thing to realize.
All in all the episode was pretty good, especially with Clark telling Chloe that she really doesn't know how much he means to her and that he couldn't go on without her. That was so so good. Unfortunately things have to go bad as per usual. When Clark uttered that he was still in love with Lana, all the character progression for Clark went POOF! into thin air.
What the HELL was that? He realizes that he almost gave up everything and everyone he loved for Lana -- which is a big honking WARNING! sign -- and says he still loves her? Had Clark learned nothing from the lessons being taught in the alternate reality? He looks like a real idiot for that one -- UNLESS that line "I woke up." when he was in the Talon meant that he woke up and truly (once and for all!) realizes that he is getting past Lana. I highly doubt that's what it meant but one can hope. Let the Clana ship DIE already!
I’m not even going to watch “Crimson” next week because I want to keep my dinner down. I don’t need to see Hooker!Nois making out with RedK!Clark – its totally disgusting.

I love the episode until the last five minutes.
What? after all this Clark still loves Lana? I just can't believe! I thought that Clark was finally ready to move on after "Zod". Why ALMILES? WHY?
________
I loved the fact that Chloe was the only one that believed Clark.
No Lois? OMG! You heard my prayers.
Allison Mack, Tom Welling and Michael Rocked as always! KK rocked as a bad Lana and that's how i like this character, because i just can't stand sweet, princess Lana anymore.
Loved Martian Manhunter! OMG, i love the actor that played him, he rocks too!
Did i say NO LOIS?(or should i say NOIS?, i like Nois better!) LOL
______________________
Clana? I hate this! I can't believe you did that! Stop it! STOP IT NOW!
And Clarks regression? That's just sad, that's how i felt. Because AlMiles and who wrote the episode: You were close to make things right.
Just remember some things about Justice: Had the best rating of the season and there was no Lana, Lois? thank good just some minutes, a lot Chlark! Chloe and Clark rocked as always and Lex was bad! and we had the Justice League!
WAKE UP CW, ALMILES!!!!

One more thing, AM, MR, and TW as well as whoever played Martian Manhunter were AMAZING :D
Posted by: Lynette | January 26, 2007 2:34 PM
Okay, my feelings for this episode are all over the place.
Things I loved: 1) Chloe still the only one believing in Clark when no one else did.
2) Chloe still determined to take down the Luthors.
3) Clark/Lex interaction. That scene was SOO moving. Props to MR for making me cry for Lex.
4) Chloe still a reporter with a Wall of Weird and contacts.
5) Clark telling Chloe she means more to him than she knows.
6) Clark's reaction to Chloe's death. He was in denial, which is common after losing someone very close to you.
6) Clark still distrusting Lana. This proves that Clana can NEVER happen because he just doesn't trust her.
7) Clark not liking Martha's marriage to Lionel.
8) Clark and Lana saying goodbye at the end. I think it was meant to be a goodye forever sort of scene, but it's hard to tell because of number 3 in my dislikes.
9) Clark choosing Chloe over Lana.
10) NO EDLOIS!!!! :D
Things I didn't like: 1) Martha not believing her son.
2) Martha and Lionel married.
3) Clark saying he loves Lana still. Where did that come from? In the entire episode, he basically feared her. She wanted to cure him, she didn't believe him, yet he STILL loves her? WTF?!
4) The playing of all ships. This includes the preview for Crimson. END OF LABYRINTH: (Clark:) I love Lana. (Clark to Chloe:) You mean more to me than you know. (Clark and Lana:) say goodbye and Clark says he woke up from his Clana dream. (NEXT WEEK) Clark/EDLois having sex or something. EWWWWW WTF?! That actually made me puke in my mouth, it was so revolting. Seriously, is the CW doing this just for the skin factor? Naked ED and TW = good ratings? I doubt that. The people who watch SV are SUPERMAN fans. I think we'd all rather see SUPERMAN than porn. People can watch porn on their own time, that's their decision, but do they have to make a show about a SUPERHERO with supposed MORALS all about sex? It's revolting. Oh, and then Clark fights with Lex over Lana. Seriously, what are they thinking? Just pick a couple and stick with it.
5) NO CHLARK KISS!!!! We were led to believe that we would have one, and they didn't kiss. WTF?!
If it weren't for the last 10 minutes, with all the I love Lana crap, I might have actually liked this episode. But all of my dislikes, even though there's less of them than there are of likes, they are greater. They actually outweigh my likes, because they were just horrible. I was looking forward to this ep, but I was COMPLETELY let down.

Honestly, the Clark/Lana made me wanna kill myself a little. Goog God, when will people realize they are BORING. Lana just sounded downright evil on the other dimension, obviously just trying to allure Clark into whatever the Zoner wanted him to do, he is super-freakin-man, stop making him sound so stupid!
All the good parts of this episode can be credited to MM, Shelby and especially Chloe. Chloe and Clark have enormous amounts of chemistry, they are adorable together, they trust each other with their lives, stop shoving all the damn triagles down our throats and just give us the pairing you've been building up since season one! Stop just throwing bones every other week and give us something real, Chloe and Clark are greal, the fans love it so just do it already!

First off I was very excited for this episode...until I actually WATCHED it. I must say it was mildly entertaining, but completely ruined by certain things and I was so dissapointed that it could have been soo much more.
First off..
The good: TW did a great acting job, I enjoyed Martian Manhunter's scenes, MR in his wheelchair was great and wonderfully acted, I enjoyed the Chlark interaction(fireplace scene was soo cute!) and loved how she is the only one he trusts even in a dream world. Also thrilled to see the return of Shelby!!
The bad: This could have been a real turning point episode for Clark..instead we got the same ole same ole--maybe even regressing back a few seasons at that!
Clark should have used the exerience to learn some lessons--his powers were good and useful and to stop wanting to be *normal*. But that was never even addressed. Also he should have learned that Lana was not good for him--he can't even *trust* her in his dream world!!--and that he should finally grow up and move on(perhpas onto another pretty girl who actually belives in him? cough*Chloe*cough).
But no!! Instead we get a Clark who almost throws his real life away(thus letting the phantoms destroy the real world) for LANA!! Creepy, stalkerish, living in his barn Lana who wanted him to get a lobotomy!!
Well I think Clark already HAD the lobotomy...Because after coming back from his dream world,( one in which his best friend Chloe DIES) what lesson does he learn?
The ones I wished he would?
No...
That he STILL loves Lana.
Sad to say that Clark has regressed and is now officially the stupidest character/superhero ever..
I am starting to believe that he actually deserves Nois(who is portrayed just about as stupid, if not more, than he is).
Boo Al & Miles....badly done.

This episode was great in my personal oppinon for the first 50 minutes. I adored all the Chloe and Clark interaction throughout. He finally appreiciates her. Michael and Tom had a great run in this one and Allison performs beautifully as usual. I am however, really disappointed in Clark's character this season. He seriously lacks the strength to get over Lana even when she is in love and engaged to someone else. It seemed last year that the show was moving away from this relationship and then suddenly out of the blue we see Clark in love with Lana. The concept alone is not just baffling but as boring. I'm not even going to bother to watch next episode where they explore this relationship further. At least Lois wasn't in this episode. Thats at least a plus.

Oh, that weird noise was the dog? I didn't catch that one... durrrrr. lol This, IMO, was one of the better Smallville episodes. But am I one of the few who thinks that Lana/Lex is uber weird/creepy/WTF? Hmmm... Oh well, bring on next week! :o)

well i cant wait till next thursdays episode because clark is exposed to red kryptonight thats not good then he goes and gets lana thats going to be weird i have no idea how Clark is going to get out of this one but lets talk about this episode it confused me the whole time i did not know what to think and I still think the cw is making a big mistake with what they r doin with lanl and lex ewwwwwww i ust wish clark would tell lana the truth first he breaks up with her then he wants her back make up ur mind but hey i still love smallville clark and lana 4-ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
