Supernatural News: Fans Rock, and Conventions Are Coming!

Supernatural fans save the dayWe've fallen behind in our reporting on Supernatural fan activity (and trust us, we'll be making that up to you soon), but this article caught our eye. It seems you Supernatural fans aren't content with creating fan art that knocks our socks off. No, you've got to go and help save the world, too.

A homeless shelter in the fictional Winchesters' very real hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, got a donation of more than $1,000 collected from Supernatural fans the world over. Another $1,000 went to SOS Children’s Villages, an international charity.

The donations were collected and organized through the website Fandom Rocks, and were spearheaded by Dana Stodgel of Champaign, Ill., Rebecca Mawhinney of Canada and Brande Ruiz, of Grass Valley, Calif.

If you missed out on the first drive, fear not: The group is organizing a second drive, and you can vote on which Lawrence-area charity should get the donation.

With any luck, some of those fans will be able to meet the boys in person in November, when Jensen, Jared and others are scheduled to hit a Chicago-area convention. Assuming, of course, Jared's convention allergy doesn't act up...

We kid, we kid! We know Jared and Jensen have busy filming schedules, work all night, and basically put in superhuman hours to get our show done. Still, we hope the gods of filming scheduling, airline departures and fan appreciation are with us this time around. Come on, Jared, prove us wrong!

Oh well. Even if Jared and Jensen are too busy, we're excited to see some of the other scheduled guests: Samantha Ferris (the fabulous Ellen Harvelle), Fredric Lehne (our favorite incarnation of the Yellow-Eyed Demon outside of John Winchester himself) and Nicholas Brendon (who, we must admit, has nothing to do with Supernatural, but who still rocks for playing Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) are also slated to attend. Are any of you planning on going?

I Love Supernatural, just bought Season 2 on DVD...CW keep this great show going, we love it !

Thanks so much!!

Thank you for bringing attention to the worthwhile efforts of Fandom Rocks. Supernatural fans are not only obssessed with this fantastic show (as indicated by the thousands of vids, fics, & blogs) but have also been inspired to take some action for the greater good.

Congrats to the fans for being one of the most intelligent and caring fanbases to come together in a long time. Hopefully people NOT watching SN will be curious to see the show that inspires such actions, and thus see for themselves that behind the demons and scares there is the underlying message of 'love for family' that is the heart & soul and driving force.

p.s. to SW... the only thing we need to bribe our producers with to listen to the fans are intelligent arguments ;)

Wow that's some cool fan base . It sure beats the Smallville fans who give t-shirts to the producers to influence the scripts.

Jared is also going to be in Burbank next month for a Creation Con, along with Fred Lehne, Samantha Smith, Chad Lindberg and Sterling Brown (Gordon).

YAY!!! Thanks for the mention!! What can we say Supernatural is very inspiring, and it is the Fandom buisness ;) Looking forward to the kick-off of the next campaign!

Thanks for starting to cover Supernatural again! I was so excited to see them at the top of your page. I didn't get around to donating to Fandom Rocks last time around, on account of being broke and whatnot, but I fully intend to this time!

Seriously, guys, thanks for giving us SPN junkies a little something more. :D

Thanks for the write-up!

The second campaign is already underway - we are just finalizing details with the charities to make sure they will accept our donations. Stay tuned fellow fans!

P.S. Our podcast will go up tonight for "All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1." Whoo-hoo!

Whats up with the crappy promo of Supernatural that CW is airing?? It SUCKS!
There is more promos for the CW's other crap shows!

Thanks for the mention! We're working on getting a table at the Chicago con. (Something Wicked in Vancouver too!)

If any Source readers plan to attend either convention and don't mind helping out for an hour or two, please contact us via our website (our email and forum have contact links) for information.

Voting has now closed for the second campaign and we are working with the selected charities to finalize any legal necessities so we can announce our second campaign kickoff.

In the meantime, check out our podcasts - as we're going to be announcing the winners of the raffle for gifts from the Kansas Film Commission!
