Beauty and the Geek: One More Makeover

Ah, the clip show. Why do so many reality shows hit us with an hour of recap and previously unseen, marginally interesting footage right when things are getting good? At least Beauty and the Geek tried to make things interesting by throwing in an extra makeover -- who knew what Jim was hiding under all that hair!

We were amazed at our first sight of Jim -- he’d already trimmed the beard and had shorter hair, so he looked less likely to be consumed by his own hair. We initially groaned a bit when the stylist said she was going to give him a bit of a fauxhawk -- why does every third man seem to get a fauxhawk these days? -- but the end reveal really showed that the stylist knew what she was doing. Jim is HOT! We were disappointed when Jim and Tiffany left. Tiffany struck us as a genuine person, and we loved Jim’s dry and deadpan sense of humor. Now he’s got an external image that matches up with inner cool. Go, Jim!

As an added benefit, Tiffany gave him a sweet leather pocket protector with flames on it. Nice!

Other than the Jim reveal, we don’t really learn much new in the extra-special BATG special presentation. The highlights:

  • Greg has a nipple ring – and he’d had it even before he hit the house and got made over! Our little Gaysian had a hidden wild side!
  • The Beauties were happy to treat Jason as eye candy, constantly asking him to take off his shirt. Jason was happy to comply.
  • Tommy shared Seven Minutes of Heaven in the closet with Amber. We don’t know what went on in there, and we don’t want to know.
  • All of the Beauties swoon over Tommy. That’s not much of a surprise. In fact, this entire episode seemed to be about The Canonization of Tommy. We get it. He’s spiffy.
  • The Beauties made Jonathan a PotatoHead girlfriend. That seems kind of nasty, but the ensuing fake commercial (“Be a stud with your very own spud!”) was pretty funny.
  • Cara is the Beauty that has managed to avoid all the drama. Everyone likes her. Randi and Amber? Not so much.
  • Leticia and Tiffany certainly ruffled a lot of feathers. We really like them.
  • Amber is a self-obsessed narcissist, which is hardly a surprise – but the Amber Remix (“So what do I like about me… me … me…”) was rather brilliant.
  • Cowboy Joe doesn’t understand hygiene. Nor does he get the inadvisability of excavating his nostril while the camera is running.

What was your favorite part of the episode? Did you learn anything that surprised you? Talk about it in the comments!
