One Tree Hill Podcast: "Sympathy for the Devil"

Listen Now

Fight! Fight! Fight! One Tree Hill has the three of us throwing down this week -- we can't seem to agree on anything! (Well, there's one thing... but we'll get to that.) We don't know if it's something in the water, but our shiny, happy, agreeable days are done!

Brooke admires Owen, a modern-day renaissance man

Lucas turns in a great screenplay, but it's missing one thing-- the Keith murder scene. He's tormented by the thought of writing Dan-- what was his motivation? Does he have a soul? Say it with us, Lucas -- he's just eeeeeeevil! Meanwhile, Peyton deals with Julian's arrival -- and flashbacks show us just what we up between the two of them during the lost years in L.A. Owen tries to win back Brooke, Nate encounters an old enemy on the Slamball court, and Haley suffers a massive lapse of judgment when it comes to Jamie's babysitting arrangements. What was she thinking? Plus, the Mouth storyline continued to torment us. Make it stop!

Find out what had Jackie waxing wroth, what prompted us to equate Mia with Dan, and why I'm predicitng a Jackie/Sarah cage match before too long. All that and a whole bunch of other impassioned opinions are waiting!

Okay what up with the special sound effects? lol. First the boing and now a crowd cheering? lol.

And about Lucas having problems writing the scene about Keith. First of all, he was not there during the shooting scene so obviously he would not know how to depict Dan. Regardless if he depicts him as "evil" it doesnt matter. He would be evil the moment he points the gun at his brother. But how was Keith? He mentioned this: Did he beg for mercy? Was he crying? Was Dan heartless and shot him for no reason so basically just walking in, shooting him without a word or did he say something that provoked the shooting? Lucas does not know this which is why he was confused and hard for him to write it.

Dan did not want to give away the real reason why he did it because he KNOWS that he's a villian and he does not want to justify his action. If he says "oh it was for revenge because I thought that Keith was the one trying to kill me so I was trying to get him back." No. Because that gives the character depth of who he is. Lucas wants to write it as a random heartless murder from Lucas's point of view. The end. And I see nothing wrong with this plot line.

Mia a few weeks ago you made a comment about Jackson's tooth...I read on the forums that he lost his front tooth so they have a fake one in! Thats why it looks so funny!

Another great podcast guys!

Well I kinda like Julian and Peyton together, am I the only one that likes them together? because in the flashback I thought he seemed like a good guy And I liked the chemistry between them. I think they could have gone far. And since Peyton obciously has a type I think Lucas does because does anyone else think that Peyton is slowly starting to look like Lindsay?

Brooke did obviously over react but she had good right too. But Jackie is right she shouldn't have kicked out of the car especially with no clothes and the arrest just made things worse so I can see why he gave up. But Owen was growing on me.

I hated that guy who's name I can't remember right now. But he was such an ass. Nathan totally owned him on the court and so he was just a sore loser. Haley seriously she must have been high when she let Sam look after Jamie I mean that is just like asking nanny Carrie to look after him although Brooke did call her an "Adolescent nanny Carrie" which she is proving right.

Lucas should make Dan seem like Freddy Krueger because Dan is just pure evil. And the shovel in the graveyard thing was just awesome in my mind. But with the whole Julian thing again I think Peyton told Brooke because that's why she said that he was her ex boyfriend. NO! please don't offer any sympathy for Peyton. This all of her fault I really really hope that he gets Peyton back. And what he said to Peyton was true he has been nothing but professional about this.

Mouth OMG I hope he doesn't do what I think he's gonna do. If he did then I am officially joining Sarah's club for Mouth haters. Although Gigi is very veri hot

great podcast Jackie you should totally keep that attitude for next week it was awesome.

I have two problems with this podcast...

First of all, usually I laugh at the jokes you make about Lucas, but this week I have to say that you really need to know the circumstances. He had trouble writing the scene because, in all honesty, he really doesn't know what happened that day. The point I'm trying to make is that you guys don't know either. I mean do you guys really think Dan just decided one day "hey, why not kill my brother"? We all want to hear what you think about the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons. Many times you guys question why a character thinks this or why a character is acting like that, THERE IS A REASON! Watch the episodes, find out what your missing.

The second thing was about Peyton. She didn't stay close with any of her friends while she was in L.A.. That was like the whole point of the season five premiere. If you recall Peyton calling Brooke saying she missed her friends and she missed her life. Brooke was in NYC, Lucas was dating Lindsey and Naley were dealing with their issues that stemmed from Nathan's accident, and Haley I think even said the reason why she became such good friends with Lindsey was because she wasn't that close with B or P at the point. Anyhoo, my point is that it doesn't surprise me one bit that no one knew anything about Peyton's relationship with Julian.

Good podcast.

I can't say much since y'all are right and Haley didn't get a storyline and she's just a prop and it is what it is-- which is not much at all.

I wish the writers would wake up to the fact that YES HALEY HAS FANS and yes we care if she does less than Mouth a secondary character and she's supposedly a main character. The treatment towards her is so unfair when there are characters of lesser importance (see, Mouth, Sam, and Owen) who get better developed storylines. Haley is half of the most popular couple and is arguably the most popular female character but the writers couldn't give two shits about it.

If five seasons of Haley fans defending/complaining on behalf of their favorite character didn't work I sadly don't see the trend changing six seasons in.

I dont think gigi is manufactured, you have to have seen the other seasons she has been on, shes always been sort of out there....

another hilarious podcast! lol i loved it. i agreed with all of you.... at different times haha.

i'll start with brooke. i totally agree that she should be allowed to be a 22 yr old and have fun and date owen!! im not the biggest fan of their relationship but she should date someone, i'm not sayin that she should always be dating anyone either but she seriously has not even talked to a guy since owen last season so she's a bit overdue. and i'm so so so so sick of sam already. that sl needs to GOOOOO!!! why are we putting so much time and effort into her!?!? ugh i can't stand it.

i am so sad that they aren't giving haley a real sl. they started to give her one with her music a few eps ago and now she's just a supporting charactor for other people's sl's. but seriously..... WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING!?!?! where did that come from that she just decides to let sam watch jamie alone for a while. at first i was thinking "does she know what happened with the party?" and then she joked about it and told her to take him anyway!!! u guys are right, that is totally not like haley especially after the nannie carrie thing. not realistic at all.

i'm soooo glad nathan is done with slam ball. i knew that guy was gonna cheap shot nathan when he wasn't looking, i saw that coming right when the game started. but i'm so glad he didn't get hurt for real. it was cute how jamie went running down there but nathan had to have been a little hurt. i think it was unrealistic that he wasn't even phased by it. but that guy should seriously be arrested or fined or suspended from the league or something!! that was soooo not cool.

peyton pissed me off, the longer she waited the worse it was gonna be to tell lucas and she should have just been honest.

lucas had a right to be mad that peyton wasn't honest with him right away. however... there's no way in hell he had any right at all for him to be upset or hurt that she had a bf and was in love and tried to move on because, NEWS FLASH!!!! he did the same thing!!!! and he asked lindsay to marry him and said yes!!! so there's no way in hell he can be in the least big upset about that. i don't have anything to say about the movie situation it's just stupid he signed that contract w/o having a lawyer look at it.

well that's it for my rant for this episode. oh except....... jamie's fake teeth look like crap they need to let him look like a normal kid, he'll be just as cute w/o his front teeth.

but keep up the good work ladies!

Hey! I love listening to the podcasts, but i have to say you guys are kinda letting logic get in the way of good TV lol.

And as far as Dan goes. You have to watch the other seasons to understand the reason Dan did it. People who've seen every episode, know why. And, i know its horrible, but it does make him a more sympathetic characters. Dan is unforgiveable, but he did have a reason that wasn't solely based on him being eeeeevil. :)

When are you guys finally going to podcast Season 2?

WOW` another great podcase, ladies. I always look forward to your comments and digs and laughter. What's up with the sound effects?

I hate gigi......poor peyton.....wish there was more peyton brooke haley scenes.......where is skills and deb hilarious 2gether

Oh and Austin Nichols is way hot! The guy who plays Owen... NO!

I find myself totally disagreeing with Jackie nowadays. I used to always agree with her and think of her as the voice of reason! lol. Now, she's like die-hard GO PEYTON GO LEYTON GO BROWEN, which is totally not my thing :P

Mia, I agree with you! Brooke doesn't have time for Owen now (or ever in my opinion... I don't like him).

I thought Julian and Peyton were SO ADORABLE! I loved when he called her the saddest girl in the world! Too cute!

Jamie's story was a good comic relief!

I personally liked Lucas' story this week. He didn't want to see the good in Dan, but he knows it's there.

Brooke and Peyton weren't close when she was in LA. There was a moment in the flashback episode in season 5 when Lucas was in NYC and Lucas asks Brooke if she's kept in touch with Peyton, she said "no, but that's not fair" or something like that. And when Peyton calls Brooke so they could move back to Tree Hill, she tells Brooke "what happened to us? We were friends."
