One Tree Hill Podcast: "You Have to be Joking (Autopsy of the Devils Brain)"
It;s another week of rare unanimity from us on One Tree Hill -- we all loved this episode! There were so many twists, so many surprises, and so many moments that we just couldn't get enough of. The Beek! Millie and Owen! Sam finds out she's indirectly responsible for Brooke's attack! Peyton and Mia spar! Julian turns out to be a good guy! Nathan kicks butt on the basketball court! And then Sam goes off with the guy who killed Q, all over the sound of Jamie reading one of the world's creepiest nursery rhymes! Fantastic, start to finish!
Lucas gets sent off to L.A. to meet with a hot director, and while they don't actually call him Dawson Leery, he may as well be Dawson grown up and gone Hollywood. James van der Beek has a fabulous time chewing scenery as an over-the-top director who loooooooves Lucas' script, and just wants to make a few teeny changes -- like killing Haley, or having Lucas marry Haley! Meanwhile, Peyton is at home, suffering in silence as he waits for the results from medical tests that should tell her what's been causing those stabbing pains she's been having. She meets with Mia, who hasn't been writing songs, no matter how much gentle pressure Peyton applies. It's the wrong day to mess with Peyton -- she tells Mia that maybe this isn't the right label for her, after all. Poing!
And that's just the start of the drama. Brooke is dealing with more Sam drama -- and she and Sam discover that the attack on Brooke was inspired by Sam. Holy crap! She was either attacked by Jack Daniels (no, really), a boy pining for Sam, or by Jack's brother -- who just happens to be the man who killed Q! Meanwhile, Nathan is having plenty of Q flashbacks as he undergoes a pro basketball tryout, and Jamie stretches his comedy wings at the school talent show. And Mouth and Gigi... well, don't get us started! Suffice it to say that while we think Millie and Owen are both making a big mistake, as least Millie is trading up!
There's lots more in this super-sized podcast. Find out what had me lamenting the plight of the food-service worker, discover yet another of Mia's fears, and hear what got Jackie texting us early this morning. Plus, find out what we thought about your reaction to last week's episode!

Oh so great story, we learned about ectopic pregnancies in health class today, and I just started cracking up because of this podcast. It is definitely possible for Peyton. Just thought I would let you guys know!! Keep up the great work! I love the podcasts! -Maggie

OK, here's the deal with S2 podcasts -- we need to be in the same place at the same time to pull it off, and unfortunately, that's proving impossible over this particular break. Unlike regular-season podcasts, where we all watch individually (except in special circumstances, like the Noir episode) and then just have to be in the same room for as long as it takes to talk, we all have to be together for the time it takes to watch an ep AND podcast about it. That's why we tend to record several eps at once over the summer -- it tends to be easier to take a whole day and knock out six episodes rather than try to chisel out an hour-and-a-half for individual eps. And when we got out our calendars and tried to schedule ANYTHING -- a day of 'casts OR just a single-episode 'cast -- we realized that travel schedules, regular work and all the rest meant we rarely had more than 20 minutes or overlapping time (and even THAT was a stretch).
Which is a long way of saying we're really, really sorry, but S2 podcasts are just going to have to wait, barring the invention of Star-Trek-like transporter technology or a way to squeeze an extra four hours out of a day. Please forgive us!

David, I'm guessing it was one 'Olde(with the e) English' nursery rhymes - I'm English too, but some of them I've never heard before. it's definetely not like Ring-a-roses, that all i can say.
The podcast was again hilarious - 'pig in blanket';) Sarah was hilarious...
It's great that you took time to mention some of our problems with Chad's episode... the Pretty Girl thing is a recurring Brucas 'thing' which I'm still fuming about every time I think of it. Also, he recycled another line from Brooke to Peyton; "I'm not ready to lose you yet" from 2x17 :(
I love Mia's phobias - I think they are actually hilarious :) :)
I'm also so glad there was no Leyton to ruin this episode, so this was one of the best yet...
If Brucas keeps on being steadily demeaned, as it unfortunately has been in the last two seasons, then Brooke/Julian would be 1,000,000 times better than BO. B.O Stinks ;)
The thing that kind of pee's me off more is that BL AND BJ are now unlikely, as Sophia dated/married but Austin Nichols and CMM, right? It must be very awkward with Austin Chad AND James all together now.
So, yep, neither of my Brooke ships work out ;'( poor me.
And Sam grew on me loads this epi.
You promised to podcast S2 in the next hiatus, which is now, so please please would it be possible to get that sorted??? I cant WAIT til you guys get onto seasons 2 and 3 - my second and first favourites, with season 3 widely acclaimed by nearly everyone as the best season because of BL JP NH. (Apart from LPers, ofcourse. But thats typico.)
love you lots and lots xx
p.s. Sophia acting - TOP NOTCH!

Could you guys PLEASE podcast season 2 since we're on a hiatus? I'm so looking forward for you to see it! Come on guys, you'll make my holiday! :D
Anyway, loved the podcast, loved the episode. Finally some more Brooke screentime.
You guys are AWESOME!

I never compared Dawson leery to that director guy but he is basically Dawson grown up. I totally saw the director talking about the whole: Dawson, Joey, Pacey thing again.
Jackie why read spoilers that ruins the whole surprise. I have a thing with spoilers.
I think the Jack Daniel guy attacked Brooke because I think he has genuine feelings for Sam.
Mouth was OMG just an idiot this episode. Sarah I might possibly be considering joining your Mouth hating club again. lol And Mouth should have deletd that pic it was just plain stupid for him to keep it, I personally would have kept it. lol
Millie and Owen, my Mouth just dropped I almost fell off my bed while watching it. Owen just put his foot in his mouth and made his situation with Brooke much worse, I think they are officially dunzo.
I knew from the start Julian was a good guy. I've said nothing bad about him. I am def kinda rooting for Brooke and Julian now, there is def chemistry. But correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Sam's mum work at the diner?
That nursery rhyme sounded a bit odd. I'm English and I've never heard that before. But as far as Sam goes I thought she would have called Mia since they got along so well at the uso show.
I hope Nathan does play in the big leagues and show that ego-tistical guy a thing or two.
I can't believe Peyton dropped Mia. that was just wrong, Mia was awesome. I can't see Peyton having cancer although her mum did have it so it is a possibility, I hope she's preggers. so that Jamie can have a lil playmate
oh yea Mia that Supernatural podcast was funny. lol
I'm not sure but maybe they could have sold those designs on ebay or held them for ransom or somehting. lol
are you guys gonna do a One Tree Hill season 2 podcast because one of you (can't remember who) said that you would start podcasting it on the next hiatus, so I really hope you do.
oh and yay Sarah you said "I KNOW!" again love it

Loved this episode, loved the podcast. I agree with you on the peyton/mia it does seem like peyton has been talking to her about it for a while, and in episode 10 haley teased her about coming up with her second album at the USO show. Loving all the cliffhangers espically sam's
Posted by: tanje | November 28, 2008 6:04 PM
heyy ladies! great podcasts as always!!!
and i agree with JR, you girls should podcast season 2 during this break (pretty please!!)
Posted by: kristen | November 28, 2008 12:21 PM
please podcast Season 2 meanwhile the hiatus! :)
Posted by: JR | November 27, 2008 4:13 PM
Hiatus? Did you guys start podcasting Season 2? Old eps, please!
Also, I do believe I was "one commenter" who agreed about the ectopic pregnancy, so that completely made my day. (However, granted this is TV, but can't they just do an ultrasound and then diagnose that? What test results or whatever would she be waiting on for that? My/our wonderful medical diagnosis might be foiled.)
This episode was just amazing, by far one of the best in a long, long while. I knew the break was coming after this episode, but never did I think there were going to be this many cliffhangers!
As for the director, didn't Mark write and direct this one? I thought I saw that. That's probably why it was different in a amazing way.

I just wanted to give Mia a giant e-hug! I really appreciate that you always try to see things from the perspective of everyone (like Brucas and how insulted fans were that Mark approved "pretty girl" being used in the Leyton relationship).
It was a pretty good episode. I can't wait for Brooke's showdown with her attacker!
The Dixon "Haley and Lucas get married" thing was definitely a snub at the best friends getting married fanbase of Dawson's creek (Dawson and Joey). I loved it! I loved him doing coke off of Lucas' script, which he apparently LOVED SO MUCH except that he wanted to change it completely.
My favorite part of the episode was when Dixon asked why Leyton had to end up together, only to get the LEAST ROMANTIC response... because they do... that's what happened... that's how it went. I'm sure Peyton would have been touched, Lucas. So much for the words "epic, destined, meant to be" being thrown around by Brooke... this is all Lucas can come up with?
I really recommend seasons 2 (highest ratings for a reason) and 3 (pretty much everyone's favorite if they love Naley... added bonus if you love Brucas and Jayton).

great podcast as usual ladies. i really loved this episode too, it was really good. it actually gave me flashbacks to how they used to do a lot of their episodes in past seasons like 2 and 3 and some of 4 because there were really really great episodes with great writing and a lot of emotion in them.
my favorite part of the episode was Nathan's tryouts. he did great and when he was doing his monologe thing it was so much like one he had after keith's death in season 3, i loved it. and he looked sooooooo hot in those still shots haha as usual.
i also liked the whole Haley/Jamie thing, it was hilarious when Jamie wouldn't come out cuz he said he looked like a tool lol. but he had some funny jokes at the thing, it was pretty cute. omg that thing he was reading at the end was soooo creepy so it made the whole sam getting in the car with the guy who shot Q way more chilling. that's not going to be good.
i agree that Sophia Bush was amazing this week, she really portrayed the shock and sadness and sense of urgency to find sam well. i absolutly loved her. and i thought Brooke had every right to blow up at Owen like that. he was a complete ass, he could see she was obviously very upset and needed help and that it was very serious to her, and he still says "well it's not like she's your kid" or whatever. that was so insensitive and i would have told him not to call me too. if he was trying to help he is way off base on the right thing to say lol.
i really hope Milli doesn't sleep with Owen, granted it would be better for her than sleeping with mouth lol but it would be a waste. and i don't get why Owen just up and decides to have a drink, it's not like the stuff that happened with Brooke was that bad that he had to throw that all away. i mean they've had worse fights.
i thought it was cool they brought James Van Der Beek back he was really funny. i will be really mad if lucas kills off or marries Haley lol. cuz yes, we fans do go crazy about who ends up together, and it has to be Naley all the way!!! haha.
ok i understand that Peyton thinks she has cancer and is all scared and stuff, but she was being a raging bitch this episode to Mia. i mean seriously, the things she said to her were so not necessary. she said life is too short, well it's too short to be a bitch to your friends too when it's not necessary. i'm sure she could have convinced Mia to change her mind in a nicer way, or been nicer about the whole situation even if it had the same end result.
so that's my rant for this episode, can't wait till we hear from you girls again and to see the next episodes!!! i hate the cliff hangers, ok i love them too, OTH is famous for them lol.

Loved the podcast, agree with you guys on everything. Nice One!
I liked this Episode, there were some parts I can do without, but overall it was a nice Episode.
Ps... Don't start on S2 it's the horrifying season, skip to S3 which was the best especailly for NH. As a NH fan, I can't stand S2, it has to be the most F*** season in history S5 comes close but nothing tops S2 as the most messed up. S3 is the best and well written.

The episode was boring, boring, boring. The ratings drop doesn't surprise me and the cliffhangers about a bunch of useless guest stars isn't all that engaging when you began watching OTH in s1 for the core characters and not these intensely mediocre actors whose characters have been imposed in a season of OTH that may very well be its last.
Is it just me or is the fact that Haley does not have a storyline compared to the developments of other storylines a bit alarming? And the comment made by the Dawson about Haley dying? I'm not sure if Mark is trying to foreshadow anything but I found that jab at the fans tasteless and lame.
I'm not partial to Brooke or Sophia Bush's acting so you can count me out of the list of people who enjoyed the episode. Her exaggerated face/voice and scenery chewing is enough to turn me off. It was like I went back in time to season two and tuned in to One Brooke Hill. Snooze.
Not enough, Haley, Lucas or Peyton. Thumbs down.

Love the podcast! It make the show more enjoyable. SInce there is a mini hiatus, maybe you guys could start on season 2?!?!?
I was iffy on the episode. All I was thinking regarding Millie/Owen is what a crappy thing to do to Brooke it is. In a weird way, it 's similar to what Millie was afraid Gigi would do.
Also, why didn't Peyton go to the talent show? I mean mouth was there.
I did like the Sam connection to Q. I didn't mind her that much in this episode.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Posted by: Taffy | November 26, 2008 10:05 AM
The ending to the episode was so unexpectedly shocking, this is coming from someone who reads spoilers. There was so much that I could never have guessed.
I think you three covered everthing really well. I liked that you talked about last weeks comments.
The only thing I have to say is that Nathan's narraration and storyline was eerily familiar to a past episode in season 3. It is one of my all time favorite, and oddly enough Lucas wasn't in it lol. Nathan started that episode with a narration and the same words "It's been said that"
I really wish you guys would podcast season 2 over this hiatus. I can't wait til you get to season 3, I am so curious as to what you will think about it. If you loved this episode I just know that you guys would be blown away by some of the older episodes.

i loveeeeeeeeeeeed this episode it was soooo good
especially brooke and sam scenes and kinda brooke and julian SCENES were cute too
i love naley and jamie there so cute together
i dont want mille and owen to sleep together because...what will that do to brooke and millicents friendship!
I agree with you guys the girl that plays sam and SOPHIA BUSH were great!
NOW SINCE WE HAVE TILL JAN.5 FOR A NEW EPISODE.................................. WILL YOU PLEASE START PODCASTING SEASON 2 OF ONE TREE HILL BECAUSE YOU SAID THAT YOU WOULD DO IT WHEN THERE WAS A LONG BREAK SO PLEASEEEE AND GUESE WHAT THIS IS A MORE THAN LONG ENOUGH WAIT SOOO PLEASEEEE!
Posted by: gg | November 25, 2008 8:32 PM
Agreed with you ladies, loved this episode as well! And even though I'm a Brucaser, I'm still interested to see where Brooke and Julian go...that last scene with them warmed me up to them! And I'm glad you all seem to love Julian as much as I do...not only does he have a fun personality, but he's just so fun to look at! ;)
As far as the whole Q's killer being Jack's brother is concerned, I definitely think he's also the one who beat Brooke. Not only does he beat his brother, but I seriously doubt that puny 15 year old is the one who attacked and hurt Brooke so severely. It was for sure the older brother...
Anyways, I'm gonna miss listening to you ladies during the hiatus...maybe it's a good time to start podcasting Season 2. Just a thought... ;)

Hey! I gotta tell ya. I loved this weeks podcast. We totally agree on everything this episode. But if you want to see more episodes like this one, you need to wander over to season 2. Every freakin episode is like this great one.
Posted by: o | November 25, 2008 7:43 PM
You guys are right. This was one of the best episodes ever. I so was not expecting it though.
I loved the podcast. It made me laugh a lot. Mia I totally share your phobia of feet too. LOL.
So does this mean you start podcasting season 2. I remember you promising to do so when the shows went on a break. Please please please.
Posted by: vortex199 | November 25, 2008 7:37 PM
loved the episode as well ... as I said ... the beginning of an end for Leyton and a new beginning for Brucas.
Posted by: Babsy | November 25, 2008 6:32 PM
I agree with everything u said. I loved the Episode too.
Also wanted to comment on the Peyton thing not telling You. I think it has to be with what he said to her at the end of 611 her which "Don't ever leave". and If she thinks it's life threatening she just wanted to find out before worrying him.
Posted by: Anom | November 25, 2008 5:30 PM
I enjoyed this podcast ladies!
I agree completely with all you guys have said, especially about Julian. I am really enjoying him. He likes to mix things up, but it looks like he has a good heart under it all. And him pushing Lucas, so much fun to watch.
And yes, Mouth is a moron for not deleting that picture.
And yeah Jack Daniels and his family, no bueno.
I'm hoping Q is gone for good. He is dead. Leave him alone. We don't need a dead guy around to help get his killer, we have real police to do that. Plus Q popping up is just way off the charts weird. Nathan needs some help haha.
And for the record, I want some green elf shoes now! Haha
The Nathan scene, and his thoughts reminded me so much of his "stepping up" speech in season 3.
Jamie was adorable, except for his creepy end quote.
My question is, what was up with the opening scene with Q on the water? I really did not, and still do not understand that.
Good podcast, can't wait til next year for the next! :-)
