Reliving Quake Memories

I can't believe I didn't feel this morning's earthquake. Neither did my 3 dogs, who slept through all 3.3 of it (Still tired from swimming at the lake yesterday, I guess)!

I'm okay with having missed out, though. The 7+ earthquake I went through in 1989 was enough for me. I was living in San Francisco and was at the World Series game at Candlestick when it hit. I remember grown men crying, all sexes screaming and seeing people run from the ballpark under rippling concrete in the parking lot.

My friend's mom hitched us a ride in the back of a pickup (We traded our just purchased beer, popcorn and peanuts to a guy who'd driven in from some state I can't remember. He didn't drink the beer, though. No worries)! He drove us back to the city and we toured the financial district. Much of the power was out, which was strange in and of itself. There were parts of buildings collapsed, near-countless dumpsters on fire, people just wandering aimlessly.  Very surreal.

I didn't get home to my folks' house for 3 days because of collapsed and crowded roads. It's an experience I will never forget. I'm glad today's produced no known damage or injuries, just a few memories for me.  I can easily live with that.
