Teen of Pain

I did a story today about teenage girls who injure themselves on purpose. It used to be called self-abuse, self-mutilation. They've toned down the name by simply calling it self-injury. Girls, sometimes as early as elementary school start cutting themselves. They sometimes burn and bruise. The counselor I interviewed considers it such a problem that she formed what she believes is the only self-injury support group in the metroplex. The girl we interviewed says she could fill two groups with just the kids she knows who cut at school. They both say they self-injure because the physical pain is easier to handle than the emotional pain. For some, it may be a painful story to watch.
