Where is the Backpack?
Typical newsrooms have photographers and reporters. But more and more newsrooms are getting what are called "Backpack Journalists" That means the reporter IS ALSO the photographer.
We have 3 backpack journalists at the 33 News. Our newest reporters are Dan X and Holly. They have extremely strong news backgrounds.
They both used to report for newspapers and are training to make their debut on TV sometime early next week. They also have experience shooting video, but it wasn't quite like this.
Here they have the top of the line equipment.
They're editing on Final Cut, on brand new Macs. They've got awesome new Sony cameras. They'll be able to finish their stories in the field, and feed them back to the newsroom from their laptops. I talked to both of them about making the switch from print, to TV.
They are both taking it really seriously- and are excited to show off their stories to an entirely new, fresh audience.
And they do NOT REALLY carry backpacks. I asked.
