Fort Worth City Council approves resolution to lease part of Rosemont Park

Whether it be Fort Worth or Dallas, residents will always fight to keep green space.

Fort Worth residents did just that today, but they were unable to defeat a resolution that could lead to 1.5 acres of Rosemont Park in South Fort Worth being leased to Fort Worth ISD.

The land would be used for a new elementary school and a community center. In return, the school district would lease 6.7 acres nearby to the city for an additional park.
Opponents of the resolution said they do not oppose the creation of the community center and school, but they are concerned that the location would cut down on green space and disrupt activities at the park.

"The school and the community center could be put somewhere else," Rita Pacheco said. "This is an established center of the community and we need it. We need it for our kids and our families."

Pacheco, who coaches several sports at Rosemont, said park visitors would actually be losing space because they are already using the field that the school district would lease to the city.

City Councilmember Joel Burns said the location was the most affordable for the city and was the best location proposed. He said it would be a win-win situation for the residents of the area.

"It creates all kinds of possibilities," he said.
