Smoking-Cessation Drugs Get Safety Warning
Chantix and Zyban must now carry black-box warnings from the FDA, the strongest the agency issues. It has to do with listing possible side effects, like depression and suicidal thoughts.
That makes Plano man Ken Albrecht very happy. His son Carter was shot to death in 2007 after a neighbor thought he was trying to break into his house. Albrecht blames his son's death on Chantix, a smoking-cessation drug his son had just started taking. Albrecht says it changed his son's entire personality.
Carter was widely described as a brilliant musician, easy going and fun. His father says a lot positive has happened since his son's death, including a release last month of a new album and the creation of the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation.
