Was Roy Williams bluffing about not talking to the media?

A couple weeks ago, after making an appearance in Austin, Roy Williams hinted that he might not be talking to the media this year.  He squashed that notion after the first practice of the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp.

"We are just trying to win ball games, you know, so we're not there yet but we're on a football team that has high expectations to win the Super Bowl" Williams said.   I want to get to the playoffs and just win the whole thing; that would just make my life a whole lot easier."

Williams has been a target of criticism for not clicking with Tony Romo after his arrival last year but he thinks after working hard with Romo during the off-season, that will all change.

"We're ready but we have a lot of work to do" said Williams who wore his old college #4 to practice today.  " I don't think we can go out and play a game right now, but I think that in two weeks, three weeks, we'll be ready to go.  We had a whole month off so now we have to get the cobwebs out and get this thing rolling once more."

Williams has some mighty lofty expectations as he assumes the #1 receiver in the Cowboys lineup after the departure of Terrell Owens, but he's keeping the mindset simple. "My expectations are just to keep things going good for me." Williams said.  "I think that a good receiver makes a quarterback look good.  No matter where the ball is I get paid to catch the football, and that's what I do."

This was the first training camp that Williams has been a part of after being traded here during the regular season last year and was excited to see a crowd of 7,292 to watch practice inside the Alamodome.

"Yeah, it's a little different from what I've seen" said Williams"   "Last year we opened up practice in Detroit for the first time and there were probably about 100 people."

Desmond Purnell will have more on the first practice during the sports tonight on The 33 News at 9pm
