Puppy Mill Custody Hearing

A Kaufman County judge Friday will address the custody of nearly 600 dogs taken Tuesday from Klassie Kennels in Prairieville.  They are in the care of the Humane Society of the United States.  Investigators there say the animals were sick and malnourished.  They say they were kept in small cages, crowded with other animals with no heating, air conditioning or medical attention.

At least 3 dogs have been euthanized.

The owner, James Boyd says he and his wife do not plan to voluntarily surrender the dogs because they are family.
