Traffic
I did a story a few years agot about how driving in heavy traffic is nearly as stressful as being a fighter pilot. That study may have been a bit far out, but getting around in traffic is really one of the toughest parts of reporting. Today, Matt and myself finished one story in Grapevine, then headed over to Flower Mound to get an interview for today's immunization story. I called ahead and told our interview subject that we'd be over in about 20 minutes. WOW, was I wrong. Make it almost an hour. We went eastbound on 114, of course you have to get in the right hand lanes to get to 121 which takes you to Lewisville-Flower Mound. We were going about 5 miles an hour FOREVER. It's really gotten to the point in DFW that setting up, interviewing, logging, writing and presenting stories live is the easy part of my gig. I know I'm not alone, I know fellow reporters here and at other stations feel the same pain. You hear the clock ticking all day long. I'm amazed that anything ever gets on the air with any quality. Here's something I don't like to hear: "Yea, we can talk to you, how about 5:00 in Plano? No wait. Make it McKinney." Look, I'm not complaining, I have a GREAT job. It's the traffic that bites, or maybe it's my inner fighter pilot coming out.
