High Anxiety

It's estimated that as many as 40 million Americans suffer from form of anxiety. That's a lot of people, so many that SMU is teaming up with the Univesity of Boston and Harvard Medical School to find ways to enhnance already utilized therapies.

We met a girl who suddenly developed an anxiety about crowded spaces, like elevators or packed rooms. She went through the eight-week program and now has no anxiety. The program uses some medicines that help patients remember therapies which makes them face their fears. Our interview subject can now pack into a crowded elevator and no longer dodges restaurants and clubs that are filled with people. Her high anxiety is now so low it doesn't exist.
