Water Polo, Really?
That is the question some students are asking in the Grapevine-Colleyville school district after officials decided to add water polo as the next new sport. The district needed to get in line with federal Title IX rules and give girls more opportunities so they chose the sport. Some students say it won't be popular and won't really offer girls any more options.
Sports at GCISD came under fire after a female athlete filed a complaint alleging that girls don't have the opportunities that boys do. Federal education officials agreed and told the district to offer more options. Critics say that boys have about 250 more slots to participate in a variety of sports over girls.
So grab your swim caps and dive in? I guess we'll see when the sport opens up early next year.
