NBA Buzz
I saw it coming and was determined not to succumb. I'm an NFL girl, you know.
But I gotta admit, after meeting Jay-Z, LeBron James and Kenyon Martin, I might be sold. All were in town this NBA All-Star weekend. All were at events giving back to the community when I spoke with them.
They talked earnestly and honestly about the importance of remembering where they came from: very modest beginnings. Kenyon Martin told me in his tough neighborhood no one ever came back. LeBron James said the kids he was about to talk to would never forget meeting him and being a role model is something he takes seriously. Jay-Z invited me to a party (I think) as a VIP. HE WINS. Okay, so maybe he was kidding and maybe the room full of media-folks started laughing ("At me" or "With me"? Hmmm), but it was my moment and I'm taking it. And in fairness here, if I must, Jay-Z also talked with great sincerity about the importance of giving back to the community.
Maybe the NBA ain't so bad.
