Doctor doctor, give me the news
Is there a doctor in the house? Anyone? Many people are happy about health care reform but there may be some unintended consequences including a severe doctor shortage. Right now America needs 125,000 family practice doctors and that number is expected to grow to 250,000 by the year 2025.
Here is the real concern: 32 million more people will soon have access to health care. Will they be able to find one? If not the entire debate about health care will have been a cruel exercise in political haymaking. What's worse, uninsured and not being able to see a doctor or being insured and not being able to see a doctor?
I hope government incentives help lure medical students to become family practice doctors. It won't happen overnight so don't take an asprin or call me in the morning.
