Emergency medicine? There's an app for that

There is an app for almost everything these days, most of them I must say are fun but not necessary. Today I met a north Texas doctor who created an iPhone app called IV Meds. The app is designed for nurses to use when they need to find the exact dosage needed for a patient. It can be critical. We've all heard the terrible story about the young Dallas girl who died in Nebraska after overdosing on blood thinner. The nurses used to have to refer to a drug book with 1,400 pages. Now with a swipe or two of the index finger the nurses have the information they need.

One nurse said the app not only saves time, it saves lives. That's what I call a necessary app.
