Strange Sensation

When I was a kid I used to hate wearing a certain pair of jeans my parents would buy for me. They were a deep, deep blue with an extra layer of something at the knee to prevent me from wearing them out. I hated those pants. They were still, hot and ugly. I felt the same way about some shoes. LIttle did I know I probably had something that they now call sensory processing disorder.

It's not an officially recognized disorder but many health experts believe that as many as 1 in 20 kids are impacted by SPD. It comes in many forms, some kids are sensitive to sound, food or touch. Some are just busy-bodies while others are reserved. It's tough to diagnose because the symptoms come in a mixed bag.

One thing is certain, more and more parents believe in SPD and so do I.

I swear, Iif I live to be 100, I'll never forget those pants.
