Neurofribromatosis strikes 1 in every 3,000 or 4,000 people worldwide. It's an inherited disorder in which nerve tissue tumors form in the skin, brain and spinal cord. It can also cause learning disabilities and disfigurement.

We met a mother who lost her 15 year old daughter to NF five years ago. She didn't know she had it until her daughter was diagnosed with it. A doctor we interviewed said that most newly diagnosed patients have never heard of NF.
