Why we're all in television
It's TV's dirty little secret. We're terrible at math and that's why we're in TV. It's a joke but it also hits pretty close to home, especially when you do a story about a 17 year old girl who won a national scholarship competition for crunching the numbers and coming up with a vaccine ratio that would all but stop the H1N1 virus in it's tracks. It's 40% by the way. Explaining her math models and how she came to that conclusion would be an exercise in futility.
Haley Shopp is a math wizard and spends some of her days tutoring kids in pre-calculus. I have a hard time spelling calculus let alone understanding it. The award catagory is designed to get kids interested in a career in medicine but Haley is more interested in math.
Notice that she has no interest in TV. Coincidence? I don't think so.
