How is this even possible?

An infertility doctor tells me that 9 out of 10 men are not told by doctors that some cancer surgeries and treatments may leave them infertile. That's a little like the CIA not talking to the FBI, you're asking for something bad to happen. There are many documented cases where well informed men have saved their sperm before undergoing surgery or treatment and became fathers later on. A guy in the UK had kids 13 years after freezing his sperm before surgery for testicular cancer.

I met an infertility doctor this week who is passionate about getting other doctors to let patients know that they have options regarding having kids in the future. Making a deposit before--just in case.

I bring this up on the eve of Fathers Day because even if the 9 out of 10 statistic is a bit high-- 5 out of 10 still way out of bounds.

In 2010 in the afterglow of health care reform I ask again. How is this even possible?
