Skin Deep
Melasma is yet another reason to say out of the sun. Melasma is a skin condition that impacts mostly women, mostly as in 90% of the people who have it are female. It's pretty common too, especially in people with darker skin tones. You can spot a person with melasma because they usually have grayish or brownish patches on their face.
Believe it or not doctors aren't really sure what causes it but people with a family history are more likely to have it than others. Sometimes it goes away on it's own but usually creams can lighten the spots.
Here's the important part--health experts say that nothing will work unless you protect your skin from the sun.
Easier said than done in Texas. Today I'm talking to a doctor and patient who has melasma. It should be interesting and you can see it tonight at nine.
