A True Milestone

Here it is, a true milestone in my 24-year-old existence: my first official blog post on The33tv.com!

I almost didn't make it. Things have been hectic today, as usual.
Just like all the exciting developments on the web. It's never dead! Here are some of the main changes today:

Twitter has been a global phenomenon - but it expanded its reach today, with the first ever LIVE Tweet from space. Before, tweets had to be emailed first before they were put on Twitter - now, astronauts have direct access to Twittersphere!

And today, Twitter is also slowly rolling out trending topics based on location, according to Mashable. It's called local trends - and shows tweets from your area (I will definitely be using this new function!)

And also very viral right now, is a blog called Sleep Talking Man. It's about a guy who talks a lot in his sleep. His wife wanted to share the funny talks, so records and writes down everything he says: to share it with the world (genius!). It's a viral hit.

Well, it's been a pleasure - my first blog post.  Looking forward to many more!

Woman Gets Pregnant With iPhone App

Did you hear the news?? Apps not only save lifes, they help create lifes too!
I read an article today that says a British woman claims she used her iPhone to get pregnant, according to Mashable. She and her husband unsuccesfully tried to conceive for more than 4 years, but after having the right appÂ…she was pregnant within 2 months.

Of course,  it's questionable whether buying the app actually helped her get pregnant, but it's save to say it helped her keep track of her monthly cycle. If you're trying to get pregnant too, there are many apps out there that can help. Here are a few;

Woman Calendar Every woman trying to get pregnant should know what her monthly cycle is. If you forget to write it down or don't have an organized calendar or organizer, try this Woman Calendar app.

Pregnancy Calendar The Pregnancy Calendar iPhone app has the same concept as Woman Calendar, except that this one seems to have more details. It keeps track of how much you weigh, what you eat, and more, helping women to conceive.

iPregnancy One of the most popular pregnancy iPhone applications is iPregnancy. This one is mostly for women who already are pregnant. It helps you with keeping track of our pregnancy, finding baby names, and much more.

Pregnancy Alarm iPhone application Pregnancy Alarm is another app that can help you to conceive. It is a calendar that keeps track of your cycle for you, so you don't have to do the math!

How the Media World is Changing - 1 Tweet at a Time

I just read a fascinating article about a Dutch guy getting hired at MSNBC to update their Twitter account. Yes, he got a job to sit down at his laptop and tweet all day!

This clearly proves that the traditional media industry is shifting the way it's generating and pushing news - but also shows that it's changing the type of people its hiring. Traditional Broadcast Media used to only hire mature professionals with a lot of experience.
Michael van Poppel is a 20 year old guy from the Netherlands with hardly any background in traditional media. So what made him get the job? Well, he owns the popular @BreakingNews feed on Twitter, and made his big break snagging a famous video tape from Osama Bin Laden. Next up: A gig at MSNBC.
You go Michael!

The Funniest iPad / iTampon Tweets

Tweeters are mocking the new iPad name with very funny 'iTampon' tweets. Here's a collection of the most funny iTampon Tweets I found on Twitter today!

Funny iPad Mocking Tweets:

@BruinGirl2001: Will the next version of the #ipad come w/wings? will there be a model called the #itampon?

@wendymolyneux I'm already going through like 4 or 5 iPads a day because of my heavy workflow

@sarahk47: The iChastityBelt will come with a password instead of a key.

@fastcompany: iPad not the first choice for women. Period. http://bit.ly/dAvVsV

@parisiensalon: The new iPad was definitely designed for women in mind. It comes in 3 sizes: regular, super and maxi.

@zombieshark: It makes me happy that #itampon is the top trending topic. I like knowing that we collectively as a people are twelve years old.

@Yoni seriously though, iPad is the worst naming decision since "attack of the clones."

@jellobean113: Who needs an iPad when you can just use an #iTampon?

@hagbardc: Is it just me, or is everytime Obama says "Jobs" really funny given the events of earlier today in re: the iPad?

@iamtourmalet: #Apple needs to rename the #iPad How about the #MaxiPad instead? It comes in three sizes too!

@TheMissus: Every time someone says iPad, I just think they're from Boston.

Behind Closed Doors on the Net

Yesterday, I had the fortune to speak to Radio Canada Journalist Janic Tremblay. After practicing some of my horrible French, ("uhmn...je ne parle pas Francais...") I was relieved to find out he speaks perfectly English.
Tremblay will participate in the social media experiment "Behind Closed Doors on the Net" next week. He and four other reporters are going to be living in a French farmhouse for five days, and they will be covering the news by using only social media.
In our short phone conversation, Tremblay told me the response to the announcement has been "overwhelming." He says he can't believe the amount of phone calls and emails he has received from news organizations all over the world.
I am particularly interested in the results since the experiment will showcase the impact of social media on traditional news organizations -- I believe it might reveal the necessity of old fashioned news outlets.
I will keep in touch with Tremblay and follow the experiment closely next week.
Tremblay said he will be traveling to France this weekend...I told him to better get ready for a couple of days of social media madness!
